JKBOSE Class 10th, 11th & 12th New Passing Marks After Syllabus Relaxation – Check Here
Srinagar, Oct 5: In another big update for students, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has quietly updated the passing marks criteria for Classes 10th, 11th, and 12th after announcing a 15% syllabus relaxation earlier this week.
This latest development has sparked fresh discussions across schools, as students and teachers try to understand how the relaxation will actually reflect in the final marking scheme. While the overall syllabus remains the same, the attemptable marks and passing marks have been adjusted in proportion to the reduction.
According to officials, this move aims to ensure fairness for students whose studies were disrupted due to repeated weather disturbances, delayed sessions, and shortened teaching periods across Kashmir and parts of Jammu.
The Board had already confirmed that students would only need to attempt 85% of the total marks in each paper, while their performance will still be counted as out of 100%. Now, with the revised attemptable marks, the passing marks have also been recalculated accordingly.
🔹 New Passing Marks Criteria After 15% Relaxation
For Class 10th Students:
- Total Marks: 80
- Now to Attempt: 68
- Earlier Pass Marks: 26
- New Pass Marks (after relaxation): 22
The Board has clarified that although students will attempt questions worth 68 marks, it will still be evaluated out of 80, making 22 the new effective pass mark for most Class 10th subjects.
For Class 11th & 12th (English Subject):
- Total Marks: 80
- Now to Attempt: 68
- Earlier Pass Marks: 26
- New Pass Marks (after relaxation): 22
Since English follows the same 80-mark structure as Class 10th papers, the same relaxed pattern will apply here as well.
For Class 11th & 12th (Other Subjects):
Subject Total Marks | Now Attempt | Earlier Pass Marks | Pass Marks (After 15%) |
---|---|---|---|
100 Marks Subjects | 85 | 36 | 31 |
90 Marks Subjects | 77 | 32 | 28 |
80 Marks Subjects | 68 | 29 | 25 |
70 Marks Subjects | 60 | 25 | 22 |
This table makes it clear how the 15% relaxation has been reflected across different subjects. The adjustment ensures students aren’t penalized for academic losses caused by shortened classes and disrupted teaching days.
The recent decision follows a series of academic challenges that schools across Jammu and Kashmir faced this year; including severe heatwaves, heavy rains, and floods that disrupted classroom schedules. The Board had already granted students a major relief by allowing them to attempt only 85% of the syllabus in their annual exams.
However, education experts had raised concerns about how the passing marks would be calculated under this new system. JKBOSE’s updated criteria now bring much-needed clarity to both students and schools.
A senior JKBOSE official told ProKashmiri.in that these changes were made “after careful consideration to maintain fairness while upholding academic standards.”
He further said that the question papers will still be set from the complete syllabus, but students can choose from the available internal options; meaning they only need to attempt questions worth the adjusted marks
The annual exams for Class 10th are scheduled to begin from November 3, followed by 11th and 12th classes later in the month. Schools have already been directed to guide students through the updated format, ensuring everyone clearly understands the revised passing scheme.
JKBOSE has also urged teachers and exam staff to maintain the integrity and fairness of the exams while helping students adapt to these temporary relaxations.
Officials from the Education Department said that this relaxation is “specific to the 2025 session only” and will not automatically continue in the next academic year unless similar disruptions occur again.
