JKBOSE Announces Syllabus Relaxation for Class 10th Students, Exams from November 3
Srinagar, Oct 4 (ProKashmiri.in): In a welcome relief for thousands of students, the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has officially announced a 15 percent relaxation in the syllabus for Class 10th students appearing in the upcoming annual exams, scheduled to begin from November 3, 2025.
The decision comes as a much-needed breather for students who faced several disruptions during the current academic year. Prolonged heat waves, torrential rains, and unexpected cloudbursts had caused major academic interruptions across many parts of Jammu and Kashmir, forcing schools to remain closed on multiple occasions.
According to the official notification, around 95,000 students are expected to appear in this year’s Class 10th board examinations. The papers will be held between 11 AM to 2 PM each day.
The date sheet reveals that the exam schedule has been carefully designed to ensure students have sufficient preparation time between subjects. The first paper, Mathematics, will be held on November 3, followed by Social Science on November 7. The Science paper is scheduled for November 11, while English will be conducted on November 14.
The languages Urdu and Hindi are slated for November 17, while Vocational subjects will take place on November 21. Students opting for Computer Science will write their paper on November 19.
The examination process will conclude on November 27, with the final papers in Painting, Art, and Drawing. Meanwhile, subjects with smaller enrolments like Home Science, Music, and optional languages such as Kashmiri, Dogri, Bhoti, Punjabi, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Persian, and Sanskrit will be held between November 23 and November 25.
A senior JKBOSE official told ProKashmiri.in that the decision to grant syllabus relaxation was taken after a careful assessment of academic losses due to weather-related disruptions. “Students will be required to attempt only 85 percent of the total syllabus, which will be considered equivalent to 100 percent,” the document reads.
This means that students can now focus on core topics without the additional pressure of covering the full syllabus, giving them both psychological and academic relief.
The Board has also urged all schools to ensure that the final preparatory classes are used effectively to help students strengthen their weak areas. Moreover, the JKBOSE has directed invigilators to maintain the highest standards of professionalism during the conduct of the exams to ensure fairness and integrity.
Officials from the School Education Department (SED) have been requested to extend full support for the smooth and transparent conduct of the exams across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
This decision marks another step in JKBOSE’s continued efforts to balance academic rigour with student well-being; a topic that has seen heightened discussion in recent months, especially after the calls for reducing syllabus burden in senior classes.
With this 15 percent relaxation, students and parents across J&K have expressed relief and optimism. Many believe this move will help reduce stress levels and improve overall performance, particularly for students who struggled with irregular classroom schedules this year.
As the countdown begins for the November examinations, all eyes are now on JKBOSE to ensure a smooth and fair process; one that reflects both compassion and commitment to quality education.
