Big Weather Alert: Fresh Snowfall Set to Hit Kashmir Again

Srinagar, 24 January: Kashmir is likely to witness another spell of snowfall as a fresh weather system is expected to affect the Valley from the night of January 26 onward, bringing light to moderate snowfall in the plains and heavier accumulation in higher areas.

According to weather observers, conditions may start changing late at night, with cloud cover increasing across most districts. As the system gains strength, snowfall activity is expected to spread gradually to many parts of the Valley, especially during the late night and early morning hours.

Officials said that light to moderate snowfall is likely over the plains, including several towns and populated areas, while moderate to heavy snowfall is expected in the upper reaches. Some locations at higher elevations could receive heavy accumulation, which may lead to temporary disruptions in movement and daily life.

The impact of the upcoming spell is expected to be felt mainly in the western parts of Kashmir, where snowfall intensity could remain comparatively higher. However, other districts may also experience scattered to widespread snow during the period.

Weather experts noted that moisture from the previous snowfall spell is still present in the atmosphere. This leftover moisture may strengthen the new system and enhance snowfall activity, increasing the chances of better accumulation across many areas.

Due to the expected snow, temperatures are likely to drop further, intensifying cold conditions across the Valley. Roads, especially in hilly and higher areas, may become slippery, and commuters have been advised to drive carefully. Travellers are also urged to keep track of official advisories before planning long-distance journeys.

While the snowfall may bring challenges for transport and routine life, it is expected to be beneficial for water resources, agriculture, and tourism, particularly for ski resorts and other winter destinations.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and said that further updates will be issued depending on changes in weather conditions.
