Big Weather Update for J&K: MET Shares Detailed Forecast
Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is set to remain under an extended dry spell, with no major weather activity expected until the middle of December. According to noted meteorologist Sonam Lotus, the region will continue to witness dry, calm and colder days as temperatures dip steadily across the Valley and parts of Jammu.
Speaking to reporters, Lotus said the current atmospheric pattern shows no sign of any Western Disturbance strong enough to bring widespread rain or snowfall before December 15. This means the ongoing dry spell is likely to continue for at least three more weeks.
He said that although the weather will stay clear, the drop in minimum temperatures will intensify the cold wave across Kashmir. “The mornings and evenings will get colder,” Lotus noted. “Minimum temperatures may go further down, touching minus three or minus four in several places.”
Residents across the Valley have already begun feeling the bite of early winter. With cloudless nights allowing heat to escape quickly, frost has begun forming in many higher areas. Locals have started stocking heating gadgets, kangris, and winter supplies earlier than usual due to the deepening chill.
Lotus also added that while there could be some light snowfall after the middle of December, there is no forecast of any major or widespread snowfall during early winter this year.
He said long range projections always carry uncertainty, but current data does not indicate any strong weather system heading toward Jammu, Kashmir or Ladakh in the coming weeks.
The extended dry spell is expected to impact night temperatures the most, with several stations likely to record sub zero readings in the days ahead.
