The sample was sent for analysis to the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad. As per the laboratory report dated January 1, 2026, the biscuit was found to be of unsafe quality due to the presence of sulphite content beyond the maximum permissible limit prescribed under food safety standards.

Officials said that consumption of food products containing excess sulphite may pose health risks to consumers. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the manufacture and sale of unsafe food items is strictly prohibited.

Invoking powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, the Designated Officer Food Safety Anantnag has ordered an immediate ban on the sale of the said biscuit brand within the district until further orders.

The department has warned traders, retailers, and distributors to immediately stop the sale and circulation of the prohibited product, stating that strict action will be taken against violators in the interest of public health.
