Snowfall Expected in J&K, MeT Issues Fresh Weather Update
Srinagar, Dec 16: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a detailed weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, indicating that the region is likely to witness mostly dry and partly cloudy conditions over the coming days, with chances of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches and continued fog in several areas.
According to the MeT Centre, weather on December 16 and 17 is expected to remain partly cloudy across Jammu and Kashmir. From December 18 to 19, the region may experience partly to generally cloudy skies, with the possibility of very light snowfall at isolated higher reaches of north and central Kashmir.
The MeT further said that on December 20 and 21, the weather may turn partly to generally cloudy, with chances of light snowfall over higher reaches of the Kashmir division and light rain over scattered plain areas of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly from late night of December 20 to the afternoon of December 21.
From December 22 to 26, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy, while December 27 and 28 may see partly to generally cloudy skies. Towards the end of the month, from December 29 to 31, generally cloudy weather is likely, with the possibility of light snowfall at isolated higher reaches of north and central Kashmir.
Issuing an advisory, the MeT Centre warned that shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue at many places in the Kashmir division and at isolated locations in the Jammu division, which may affect visibility. It also cautioned that light snowfall combined with sub-freezing temperatures over higher reaches around December 20–21 could lead to slippery road conditions.
Travelers and transporters have been advised to remain cautious and follow advisories issued by traffic and district authorities during the affected period.
