JKBOSE Announces New Passing Marks for Class 10th Exams 2025
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has released a comprehensive notification detailing the maximum and minimum passing marks for Class 10th students for the upcoming Annual Regular Examinations 2025–26.
The new assessment guidelines apply to Kashmir Division and winter zone areas of Jammu for the October–November 2025 session, and to summer zone areas of Jammu for the February–March 2026 session.
The notification, issued by the Academic Division of JKBOSE, outlines the revised marking structure, subject-wise minimum pass criteria, and internal assessment weightage under the updated syllabus and courses of study available on the Board’s official website, www.jkbose.nic.in.
According to the circular, each subject in the Secondary School Examination will carry 100 marks, split between theory and internal assessment. The theory component carries 80 marks, and students are required to score at least 26 marks to pass, while the 20 marks allotted for internal assessment require a minimum of 7 marks to qualify.
These criteria apply to core subjects such as General English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, Urdu, and Hindi.
For optional or additional subjects and those chosen by Children With Special Needs (CWSN) students, the pass criteria vary based on the nature of the subject. For instance, in subjects like Computer Science and Home Science, higher internal assessment weightage has been given to reflect practical learning outcomes.
JKBOSE has also specified the passing marks for a range of additional and vocational subjects, including Arabic, Sanskrit, Dogri, Punjabi, Kashmiri, and Persian, among others. Students must score a minimum of 33% in both theory and internal assessment components to be declared pass.
For vocational subjects, the Board has introduced a three-part evaluation model under the new scheme of assessment:
- Theory/Written Test – 30 marks (based on a paper of 60 marks)
- Practical Test and Viva – 50 marks
- School-Based Continuous Evaluation (CCE) – 20 marks
To qualify, a student must secure at least 33 marks out of 100 in total and separately pass theory and practical exams.
The theory portion will continue to be conducted by JKBOSE, while Sector Skill Councils (SSC) will oversee the practical examinations under the skill-based curriculum. The internal or school-based assessments will be handled by Vocational Trainers (VTs) within the respective institutions.
JKBOSE clarified that no student can qualify unless they pass both theory and practical components individually, ensuring academic and skill-based balance in evaluation.
The revised assessment structure will be applicable from the 2025 examination session onward. All heads of affiliated government and private higher secondary schools have been instructed to strictly follow the updated scheme and maintain transparency in awarding internal marks.
JKBOSE has also directed schools to keep complete internal assessment records duly signed by teachers, examination in-charges, and heads of institutions for verification purposes.
The notification was issued under No. F(Acad-C)MD-X/25 dated 29-10-2025 by the Director Academics, JKBOSE, and circulated to all Chief Education Officers, District Development Commissioners, and school heads across Jammu and Kashmir.
