JKBOSE Issues New Passing Marks for Class 11th and 12th Exams 2025–26
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has released the updated scheme of assessment and revised passing marks for Class 11th and 12th examinations for the academic year 2025–26.
The new framework will apply to the October–November 2025 session for the Kashmir Division and winter zone areas of the Jammu Division, and to the February–March 2026 session for the summer zone areas of Jammu. The move follows the updated syllabi and course structures available on the Board’s official website.
Common Pass Percentage Fixed at 36%
JKBOSE has fixed the minimum pass percentage at 36% for both Class 11th and 12th students across all streams; Science, Arts, and Commerce. The Board said the decision is aimed at ensuring uniformity, transparency, and alignment with national academic standards.
For most subjects, including Mathematics, History, Economics, Political Science, Urdu, Hindi, Education, Business Studies, English Literature, Philosophy, and Islamic Studies, the total marks remain 100; with 80 marks for theory and 20 marks for internal assessment. To pass, students must score 29 marks in theory and 7 marks in internal assessment, making the total passing score 36 marks out of 100.
Class 11th Scheme: Uniform Criteria Across Streams
For Class 11th students, the same pattern will be followed across the Kashmir and Jammu divisions. The Board clarified that core science subjects; such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Geography, Psychology, and Environmental Science; will carry 70 marks for theory, 10 marks for internal assessment, and 20 marks for external practical exams.
To qualify, a student must secure 25 marks in theory, 4 marks in internal, and 7 marks in practicals, totaling 36 marks. The General English paper, which carries 100 marks, will require students to score 33 marks to pass.
For vocational subjects at the Class 11th level, the total marks are also 100, divided equally between a 50-mark theory paper and a 50-mark practical test. Students must score 18 marks in each component to qualify. JKBOSE will conduct the theory examination, while the Sector Skill Councils (SSC) will oversee practical evaluations.
Class 12th Scheme: Subject-Specific Pass Marks
For Class 12th, the new system largely mirrors that of Class 11th but with stream-specific detailing. The General English subject remains compulsory across all streams with 100 marks; 80 for theory and 20 for internal assessment. Students must obtain 26 marks in theory and 7 marks in internal to qualify, with 33 marks overall as the passing score.
Other major subjects; including History, Economics, Political Science, Mathematics, Sociology, Accountancy, and Business Studies; also carry 100 marks, divided into 80 for theory and 20 for project or internal work. Students must obtain a minimum of 29 marks in theory and 7 in internal/project work, bringing the total pass marks to 36 out of 100.
For Science and technical subjects, such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Psychology, and Home Science, the structure includes 70 marks for theory, 10 marks for internal assessment, and 20 marks for external practicals. The minimum passing marks are 25 in theory, 4 in internal, and 7 in practicals, again totaling 36 marks.
At both Class 11th and 12th levels, the Board has placed strong emphasis on vocational education. These subjects are divided into two equal sections; 50 marks for theory and 50 marks for practicals. Students need at least 18 marks in each component to pass.
JKBOSE has clarified that theory examinations will be organized directly by the Board, while the practical component will be evaluated under the supervision of Sector Skill Councils (SSC), ensuring uniform assessment standards across schools.
Officials from the Academic Division said the new assessment plan is part of JKBOSE’s broader effort to align its marking system with national standards under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, ensuring parity with other education boards across India.
