J&K Govt Orders Major Transfer of Lecturers Across Schools

Srinagar, Aug 13 (ProKashmiri.in):The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced a large-scale transfer and posting order for lecturers across the Union Territory, affecting dozens of Higher Secondary Schools (HSS), Government Higher Secondary Schools (GHSS) and District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET). The decision, issued by the School Education Department, takes effect immediately and aims to improve staff distribution, fill vacant positions, and ensure better availability of subject specialists in schools.

According to Government Order No. 561-JK(Edu) of 2025, signed by the Secretary to the Government, lecturers from a wide range of subjects including Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Commerce, English, Physics, Geography, Political Science, Urdu, Sociology, Psychology, Education, EVS, Stenography, Islamic Studies and Computer Science have been moved to new postings. Officials say the move was necessary to balance teacher strength across districts and avoid situations where some schools had excess staff while others were struggling with shortages.

Many of the transfers involve lecturers exchanging positions between nearby schools. For instance, Botany lecturers Mir Javid Iqbal and Mohd. Ashraf Najar have swapped places between HSS Nehama and HSS Zoohama. Zoology lecturers Mohd. Maqbool Reshi and Dr. Zubair Ahmad Dar have exchanged postings between HSS Waterhail and BHSS Nagam. Similarly, English lecturers Shazia Gul and Shabir Ahmad Baba have switched between BHSS Ganderbal and GHSS Rajbagh.

Some lecturers have been shifted over longer distances, moving to completely new regions. Chanmeet Kour Dutta, a Chemistry lecturer, has been posted from BHSS Soura to GHSS Aishmuqam. Commerce lecturer Sumaira will now serve at BHSS Soura instead of GHSS Khonmoh, while Showkat Hussain, also from the Commerce stream, has been posted to S.P. HSS Srinagar.

Several postings have been made to fill subject-specific gaps in far-off districts. Information Technology lecturers Parvaiz Ahmad Parvaiz and Raof Ahmad have been moved between HSS Surasyar and HSS KB Pora, Kulgam. Environmental Science lecturers have been transferred to different parts of Kupwara, Budgam and Kulgam to ensure the subject is available to students in remote schools. Lecturers for Stenography and Islamic Studies have also been shifted to institutions that previously lacked specialists in these areas.

The transfer order also addresses special cases. Some lecturers, who were earlier under orders of transfer, have been retained at their current schools due to administrative requirements. In certain postings, lecturers will have their salaries drawn against vacant positions until regular posts are made available. For example, EVS lecturer Afsha Zehra has been sent to HSS Behnipora, Kupwara, against a vacancy in Information Practices.

Officials from the education department said the decision was taken after careful review of staff positions and school needs. “The aim is to ensure that every Higher Secondary School, whether in urban or remote rural areas, has access to qualified lecturers in all core subjects,” one official said, adding that such reshuffles are a routine part of maintaining quality education in government institutions.

The order clearly mentions that all the transferred lecturers are “deemed to have been relieved with immediate effect,” meaning they must join their new postings without delay. Concerned Chief Education Officers (CEOs) have been directed to ensure compliance and facilitate smooth joining of the transferred staff.

This is one of the largest lecturer reshuffles in recent months and comes at a time when schools are preparing for the upcoming academic term. With this move, the administration hopes to strengthen teaching standards, reduce workload imbalances, and ensure that students across Jammu and Kashmir including in remote areas like Karnah, Gurez and Damhall can benefit from consistent academic support.

Similar large-scale transfers have been made in other departments recently, showing a coordinated approach towards reform and better governance.
