Winter Vacations Announced for Government Degree Colleges in J&K
Srinagar/Jammu: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has officially announced winter vacations for all Government Degree Colleges across the Union Territory. The order has been issued by the Higher Education Department in the interest of administration.
According to Government Order No. 497-JK(HE) of 2025, dated December 23, 2025, degree colleges in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions will observe winter vacations, with schedules varying according to winter and summer zones.
As per the order, all Government Degree Colleges in the Kashmir Division falling under the Winter Zone will remain closed from December 24, 2025, to February 14, 2026. The same vacation schedule will apply to Government Degree Colleges in the Jammu Division falling under the Winter Zone.
Meanwhile, Government Degree Colleges in the Jammu Division falling under the Summer Zone will observe winter vacations from January 1, 2026, to February 10, 2026.
The order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority and signed by Shantmanu, IAS, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Higher Education Department.
All concerned authorities, including the Director Colleges J&K, Registrars, Nodal Principals, and Principals of Government Degree Colleges, have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the vacation schedule. The order has also been uploaded on the official website of the Higher Education Department for wider information.
This announcement brings clarity for college students and faculty across Jammu and Kashmir as the region prepares for the peak winter period.
