Schools Going Online in J&K After PM Modi’s Remarks? Truth Behind Viral News
Srinagar, May 11: A news report circulating widely on social media claiming that schools across India, including Jammu and Kashmir, have been ordered to switch to online classes amid the Iran-US conflict has created confusion among students and parents. However, no such official order has been issued by the Government of India or the Jammu and Kashmir administration.
The viral reports are based on remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public event, where he appealed to citizens to adopt temporary cost-saving measures in view of rising global crude oil prices and economic pressure linked to tensions in West Asia.
During his address, the Prime Minister reportedly suggested that schools and colleges could consider online classes similar to the Covid period as part of broader fuel and resource conservation efforts. However, officials have clarified that this was only a general appeal and not a government directive or mandatory policy decision.
As of now, all schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir continue to function normally in offline mode, and no notification regarding closure of institutions or transition to online classes has been issued by the School Education Department or Higher Education Department.
Education officials said that any major decision regarding closure of schools or online teaching would only be implemented through an official government order and not through social media reports or headlines.
The clarification comes after several posts and forwarded messages claimed that online classes had already been announced nationwide due to the Iran-US situation and rising fuel prices. Authorities have advised people not to panic and to rely only on official government notifications for such information.
In Kashmir as well, schools remain open and routine academic activities are continuing as usual. Parents and students have been urged to avoid spreading unverified news and misinformation online.
Officials reiterated that there is currently no order for online classes in Jammu and Kashmir, and educational institutions will continue functioning normally unless any formal notification is issued in the future.
